Comparison between Dense L-Band and C-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Time Series for Crop Area Mapping over a NISAR Calibration-Validation Site

چکیده

Crop area mapping is important for tracking agricultural production and supporting food security. Spaceborne approaches using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) now allow crop at moderate spatial temporal resolutions. Multi-frequency SAR data highly useful monitoring because backscatter response from vegetation canopies wavelength dependent. This study evaluates the utility of C-band Sentinel-1B (Sentinel-1) L-band ALOS-2 (PALSAR) data, collected during 2019 growing season, generating accurate active extent (crop vs. non-crop) classifications over an region in western Canada. Evaluations were performed against Agriculture Agri-Food Canada satellite-based Annual Cropland Inventory (ACI), open product that maps land cover across Canada’s land. Classifications coefficient variation (CV) approach, where optimal crop/non-crop delineating CV threshold (CVthr) selected according to Youden’s J-statistic. Results show agreed better with ACI when Sentinel-1 (83.5%) compared PALSAR (73.2%). Analysis performance by reveals PALSAR’s poorer can be attributed soybean, urban, grassland, pasture classes. also values situ wet biomass canola soybeans, showing crops lower (soybean) had correspondingly values.

High-Efficiency L-band Transmitmeceive Module for Synthetic Aperture Radar

Space-based radar places significant demands on the spacecraft resources (mass, power, data rate) and is therefore very expensive to implement. These systems typically require active phased-array antennas with hundreds or thousands of Transmit/Receive (TIR) modules distributed on the array. Highefficiency is a vitally important figure of merit for the radar T/R module because it reduces the pow...

Mapping by Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (sar)

Using advanced SAR data from the Danish airborne SAR, EMISAR, a research project was initiated in 1998 as a collaboration between the Technical University of Denmark and the Danish National Survey and Cadastre to investigate the potential of using SAR data for production and updating of cartographic maps. The ultimate objective of the research is to be able to perform quickly and efficiently co...

Subsidence Monitoring over the Southern Coalfield, Australia Using both L-Band and C-Band SAR Time Series Analysis

Land subsidence is a global issue and researchers from all over the world are keen to know the causes of deformation and its further influences. This paper reports the findings from time series InSAR (TS-InSAR) results over the Southern Coalfield, Australia using both ALOS-1 PALSAR (Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar) and ENVISAT ASAR (Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar) datasets....

Characterization of L-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) backscatter from floating and grounded thermokarst lake ice in Arctic Alaska

Radar remote sensing is a well-established method to discriminate lakes retaining liquid-phase water beneath winter ice cover from those that do not. L-band (23.6 cm wavelength) airborne radar showed great promise in the 1970s, but spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) studies have focused on C-band (5.6 cm) SAR to classify lake ice with no further attention to L-band SAR for this purpose. ...
